Reader's Annotation:  Learning Express, one of the EBSCO databases, provides a series of drills on english and mathematics subjects.  This is a useful resource for the 8 to 9 year old, with subjects which begin in fourth grade.

Resource summary: Learning Express Library, another suite of software purchased by library districts, offers a series of web-based quizzes and practice drills on mathematics and language arts. This database is intended for the older age of the spectrum, with quizzes available for fourth grade and older. To access it, a user needs to create an account and log in.  They can then choose from a series of quizzes, and begin.  

Critical review:

This database provides a  helpful range of quizzes and feedback on the scoring of those quizzes. While students might not enjoy using this database, it can help them prepare for upcoming examinations, as well as grade level testing.  The tests are easy to access and feedback is immediate. There is a somewhat limited range of subjects.

Why include it?

While games and other formats of learning are much more fun and interesting - there is value in drilling and examinations.  With so much of the school system depending on testing, a familiarity with the format is helpful.  Likewise, the feedback section is helpful, allowing users to score their progress.
