Marvelous Materials

INFO 263 - Materials for Children

Spring 2016

Professor Elizabeth Wrenn-Estes

Marvelous Materials: A Blog by Jennifer Michalicek

If you could only add 50 materials to a children's library collection, what would YOU add? Would you have international books, audio books and e-materials? Picture books or chapter books or middle grade books?

This blog was created to explore that question. After reviewing hundreds of materials for children, I have selected the 50 most interesting and appropriate for a diverse children's library, focused towards children from the ages of 0-9. Each item will include bibliographic information, a teaser sentence, a plot summary, and critical review, as well age and lexile level of the book, any awards it has won, and a few sentences about why I included it.

Happy reading!
